Welcome to River City Books!
River City Books is provided by Carleton College as a service and benefit to the Northfield community. We're located in downtown Northfield, where the town motto is "Cows, Colleges, and Contentment." At River City books each staff member has an association with Carleton or St. Olaf College, we're all relatively content, and some of us even know a thing or two about cows. We are also proud to be one of the few "McSweeney's 100" stores in Minnesota. Please register to join our mailing list (in the lower left hand corner of our home page) to receive e-mail notices about upcoming events and sales. Feel free to call or e-mail us with any questions, recommendations, or concerns you might have.

Girls Like Us: Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon: And the Journey of a Generation Girls Like Us: Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon: And the Journey of a Generation
by Weller, Sheila
Sheila Weller's story of three of the most important women in the history of pop music--Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and Carly Simon--captures the '60s better than any novel, recalling the stories and songs that have become ingrained in the psyche of America's soul. I would rate this book a 98--it has a great beat and you can dance to it.--Jerry Brown, The Bookstore (Radcliff, KY)

Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace . . . One School at a Time
by Mortenson, Greg, Relin, David Oliver
The astonishing, uplifting story of a real-life Indiana Jones and his humanitarian campaign to use education to combat terrorism in the Talibans backyard

Anyone who despairs of the individuals power to change lives has to read the story of Greg Mortenson, a homeless mountaineer who, following a 1993 climb of Pakistans treacherous K2, was inspired by a chance encounter with impoverished mountain villagers and promised to build them a school. Over the next decade he built fifty-five schoolsespecially for girlsthat offer a balanced education in one of the most isolated and dangerous regions on earth. As it chronicles Mortensons quest, which has brought him into conflict with both enraged Islamists and uncomprehending Americans, "Three Cups of Tea" combines adventure with a celebration of the humanitarian spirit.
